Today… Was A Beautiful Day
Mar 11th

Today was a beautiful day
The sun rose
The birds flew
The stars shined
The flowers bloomed
The moon beamed
The earth… SHOOK
Today was a beautiful day
Until I felt the world move at my feet
Today, the world moved under my feet
Not because I fell in love at first sight
Or because my heart was broken into – yet again
Not because I won the lottery
Or because I delivered my first child
Not because I lost my job
Or because my breath was taken away
Today
My mother’s land, my motherland, moved
I guess because it had to
That’s the only thing that would make sense – kind of
Two minutes -
One hundred and twenty
Very.
Long.
Seconds.
Homes
and
Lives
and
Loves
and
Dreams
All now BROKEN
But, today was a beautiful day.
Tears were shed
Fear was met
Loves were lost
My mother, sister, I…
My family
My friends
My people
We all trembled
Yet we tried to be still
As still as one can be
When Mother Nature decides to shake things up
As still as we could be
In hopes that our silent prayers kissed by tears
Would speak louder than words
I can’t say I remember much
But I do know that Today… WAS
Today IS
A beautiful day
Why?
Well, I’m alive… Aren’t I?
